Benzoic Acid (C7H6O2) USP, Food Grade

Benzoic acid is derived from Gum Benzoin, is a colorless crystalline solid, used as a preservative and for its antifungal properties.

Often added to creams and ointments for the treatment of fungal skin diseases, and as a topical antiseptic.

Commonly used antimicrobial preservative in food and carbonated beverages, has inhibitory effects on the proliferation of bacteria and yeasts, and extending the shelf life.

Typical levels of use for benzoic acid as a preservative in food are between 0.05–0.1%.
